‘Health insurance for the poor in Africa is a revolutionary concept.’
In an exclusive interview the former Dutch Minister Koenders for Development Cooperation explains why providing health insurance to the poor in Africa is so vital. In a five minute interview, Koenders talks about the poor state of African health systems and how the innovative program of the Health Insurance Fund successfully addresses this issue.
A program that in his eyes protects the poor against out of pocket health expenditure and that increases the demand as well as the quality of health care. Koenders: ‘It tries to break this vicious cycle of poverty and poor health care, by making it possible for people to get health insurance. That such a system works for organised groups is revolutionary.’ Click on the film below to view the full interview.
